New Year—New Look 2010

Each passing year brings change to the National Scouting Museum, and 2010 is no exception. This year we will mark the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with exciting new exhibits featuring artifacts that can only be found here!

Orientation Theater

2010 marked the premiere of a new Orientation Theater film here at the museum. Our new film features trusty Boys' Life mascot, PeeWee Harris and Lord Robert Baden-Powell. These two pals show our visitors how exciting being a part of Scouting can be as they take a journey to all three BSA high adventure bases. You'll be inspired to start your own journey through the BSA's programs!

Furniture from the Collection of Lord Robert Baden-Powell & Family

Lord Robert Baden-Powell is known as the founding father of the world Scouting movement. A new exhibit at the museum features furniture and items that were used by the Baden-Powell family for generations. A highlight of this case is the British flag that flew over Mafeking during the siege that made B-P a popular war hero in the UK.

Scouting History Area

Two cases in our Scouting History area received an overhaul. One case features "Scouting Firsts" and includes photographs and stories about landmark Scouting events. The second case will appeal to music lovers. Scout band instruments, records and sheet music used by early Scout troops are on view.

Boy Scout Area Case

The museum recently received a large collection of Scout knives and we are excited to show them off in the Boy Scout area case. The knives represent the entire 100 year period of the BSA and many rare pieces are on view.

Pinewood Derby Racetrack

We are excited to have a new sponsor for our Pinewood Derby racetrack. Derbyworx has graciously donated cars and tools to the museum to keep our racetrack up and running! We also have a display of the products available from Derbyworx along with awesome examples of the cars you can create.

Airborne Adventure

Our newest hands-on interactive game is the Airborne Adventure. This game allows up to six players the chance to experience the thrill of skydiving in a safe environment. As an airplane drops several skydivers, the participants must make sure each skydiver lands safely on an island. Scouts and Scouters of all ages enjoy this new game.
